Holloway
Company, Inc. of Ft. Worth, Texas, a full-service rolling company, has
recently installed the largest angle bending roll in the world. The new Swedish-built ROUNDO Model R15S, weighing over 150,000 pounds, will soon
be on line and in full production, playing an important part in the firms expanding
Angle and Section Rolling Division, currently serving customers throughout the United
States. With the technical assistance of COMEQ, Inc., the Baltimore-based national distributor of ROUNDO Angle and Plate Bending Rolls, Holloway Company
surveyed the demands of the market for rolled heavy structural sections. |
| The
machines available at the time of the study were simply not large enough. In commenting on
the new addition to the Angle and Section Rolling Division, Mr. Lynton Holloway, President
of the firm, said that "customers were requesting product specifications that our
company simply could not meet; so, we carefully studied the matter at length before making
the final decision". Following discussions with ROUNDO
factory design engineers, Holloway became the international launch customer for the Model
R15S, with capacity to roll 40" beams the easy way, 30" beams the hard way (X-X
axis), any size angle, channel, and structural tube, and up to 24" pipe. "By
the time this new piece of equipment is installed, there will already be a backlog of
orders waiting for it" said Mr. Holloway. As
explained by Holloway Company Board Chairman, Mr. Gene Holloway, who started the company
in 1971 and bought its first ROUNDO Angle Bending Roll
in 1990, "We now have a separate 30,000 square foot Angle and Section Rolling
Division facility which utilizes eight angle bending rolls". Mr. Holloway was
impressed with the flexibility of the ROUNDO engineers
to tailor the new machine to meet the ever-increasing section sizes and tougher quality
standards demanded by their customers. According to Mr. Göran Kajrup, Managing Director
of ROUNDO AB, "We thought we had reached the
maximum size for this type of machine when we built the Model R13S several years ago.
However, developments in the building industry, led by progressive architects, has led to
the need for an even larger section bending machine".
One of the largest uses for angle (or section bending)
rolls is, of course, for archways in commercial buildings and other selected architectural
applications. In addition to architectural usage, many original equipment manufacturers
are quickly realizing the advantages of rolling and shaping steel they need instead of
fabricating sections and welding them together. Rolled sections enhance and improve the
design of finished structures and, in the process, cut costs by the use of lighter
material. Now, with the new ROUNDO Model R15S,
Holloway Company can handle virtually any structural section
their customers require. For information on Holloway Company, Inc. or to inquire about
