ROUNDO Unveils World's Largest Section Bending Machine

RoundoR21.jpg (242819 bytes)

ROUNDO, AB of Hässleholm, Sweden, world-renowned builder of plate and section bending rolls, has done it again! Currently the builder of the ROUNDO Model R-15S section bending machine, a massive unit designed to curve beams the hard way (X-X axis) up to 30” (790mm) tall and roll virtually any size of square or rectangular structural tubing, ROUNDO has now shipped the Model R-21, which eclipses the Model R-15S as the world’s largest section bending machine.

The Model R-21 was specifically designed to curve massive square and rectangular bars the hard way using high-strength steel, predominantly to supply wind tower manufacturers with curved rings used to join tower sections together in the field. Normally, these rings are made by the expensive forging process, available from only a handful of suppliers world wide. Tower manufacturers would often find themselves at the mercy of the forged ring suppliers, both from a delivery and price standpoint. In addition, due to their large diameters (14’ or 4 meters and larger), shipping costs to the tower fabricators are enormous. Now, these rings can be produced locally from less expensive and readily-available flat bar stock, welded and machined as needed, and shipped to the tower manufacturer.

The Model R-21 can prebend (reduce the flat ends which are always present when rolling sections or plates) heavy solid square or rectangular bars and leave flat ends that are less then two times the height of the bar. For example, the Model R-21 can prebend and roll 12” x 12” (300 x 300 mm) square bar to 60” (1525 mm) diameter and leave a flat end of no more then 20” (510 mm)! When rolling massive rectangular bar the hard way, the machine can roll 18” x 5” (450 x 125 mm) bars, using high-strength steel, to a diameter of 96” (2500 mm), leaving a flat end of no more then 18”, or an amazing one-times the height of the profile!

Like all ROUNDO bending rolls, the Model R-21 is manufactured in Sweden, utilizing ROUNDO’s famous design and engineering skills and attention to detail to assure that the machine meets their customer’s as well as their own exacting standards. Easy access to world-renowned Swedish steels and materials insures that only the highest quality material and components are used on ROUNDO bending rolls.

ROUNDO section bending rolls (also known as angle bending rolls) have become the industry standard for rolling structural sections for all types of applications. The Model R-21 joins the other 22 standard models and sizes to provide the widest range of section bending machines available from any manufacturer.

For even larger capacities, ROUNDO BeamBenders have capabilities up to 44” beams both the easy and the hard way. In addition, special machines are available to handle even the toughest rolling requirements.

ROUNDO angle rolls, plate rolls, BeamBenders, and welding positioners are produced in Sweden, and have been distributed in North America exclusively by COMEQ, Inc., White Marsh, MD since 1970. This decades-old partnership continues to serve the metal fabricating industry with sales, support and technical assistance commensurate with their leadership position in the industry.
